This is my Seranith OC, Cactus Green. Seraniths, as best as I can explain them, are fluffy velociraptors. If you want to know more about what a Seranith is, check out the webcomic Archipelago at [link] OR [link]

Her real Seranith name means the English approximate of, 'Within her heart lies wisdom amongst folly, strength amongst weakness, and life amongst decay. She protects these treasures, her virtues, and those she holds dear with vigor, never giving into the world's grasp.'

Her father is Red Badger Boulder, and her mother is Tree Red, and her best friend is a male were-owl named Henry Poot Berg III. She often calls Henry by his middle name, much to his annoyance, but it's all cool because in the end they're always bestees. (I'll have to come up with a character design for him and draw them together.)

Hmmm, well, in case my handwriting can't be read, here's a description: she's kind of a big boned Seranith that's slightly longer than the average female by about an inch or two. The reason for her stockiness is that her mom's side of the family is adapted for cold regions. This also explains her thick mane. Her mane and the top of her coat are slightly different shades of rusty red, and her primary fur color is a light beige. The tips of her ears are docked because of an individuality crisis she had when she was 14 years old.

I haven't decided on a few things like her exact age, but I want her to be a younger adult Seranith, so she would probably be in her early 20s, MAYBE late teens, since Seranith reach adulthood at like 16... I think. I'll have to check on that again or something.

Okay, now for the art itself! (Note that I numbered them in order of when I drew them.) Well, I'm fairly happy with the way I actually drew the first two from memory. I adjusted a couple things later, but they still turned out fairly well, especially the top one. The one labeled #3 is just to help me get a better grasp of how I want her anatomy to be, so I drew her without her mane. And #4 is kinda meh looking, but I wanted to at least try drawing her face at that angle.

(I also want to note that I have never been much of a nonhuman-art artist, sooo....)

The thing that I'm kinda worried about is the eyes. After looking over the archives and seeing a glimpse of colored Seranith, I'm starting to think that I need to get a better understanding of what's going on there.

Anyway, that's it for now, I think.

(Please don't steal my character. I put a lot of thought and effort into her.)

Love the character design and the concept, but really, nothing can go wrong with fluffy raptor, they're just the best concept around. Yay for Silver for making these awesome creatures and yay for you for designing your own!!!
Too much excitement!!!

This is so cool! I hadn't seen any Archipelago original characters yet - she's really awesome, and I would love to see that owl fellow too :D

Thank you! =D I hadn't seen any either. Who knows, I might even start a trend. XD

As for the owl fellow, I've worked out most of his design. I just need to make a few tweeks to his body. I'm no good at male anatomy, so I keep needing to put the picture down and come back to it to make corrections.

Maybe I will make one :o

And yeah, male anatomy has always been hard for me too. For some reason, drawing girls is just smoother... boys always come out blocky >:c

It totally wouldn't hurt anything to make up your own Archipelago OC, I'm sure. =)

Well, I heard that people usually have trouble drawing the opposite sex, so there is that. =0

yeah, I figured that was it. I mean, I can use my own body for reference when I'm drawing girls, but for boys I have to use pictures, and that's somehow inferior to an actual model :/

I would totally make an FC if I had a really good idea c:

I've heard that it's harder to draw from reference pictures because of the loss of dimensions when you go from an actual model to a picture. That extra element gives your mind more to analyze and understand.

Well, before I made Cactus, I started off with the train of thought, "Hmm, if I lived in the world of Archipelago, what would I want to be?" and I just kind of took it from there. Don't get me wrong--Cactus isn't actually supposed to be me, but I went with what species I liked best, and worked it out from there.

That's prolly it. It's so wierd though... how your mind can tell a picture from reality, and it understands reality better? or at least it's easier to draw something alive and moving O.O I dunno, cool though.

Yeah, my favorite species is either Avian or jabberwocky. ... Okay, okay, jabberwocky is not a race, but Charlie is so darn cute ^^

I know! They're freaking adorable! :iconsnowlavplz:
Although, from what TopHat has said, Charlie is pretty much a once in a lifetime exception as far as jabberwockies are concerned... (I actually have my own theory as to why that is, but we'll have to see about what's going on there.)
